I was born in southern Idaho to Del and Louella Scherer. My father was a businessman and my paternal grandfather was a carpenter. My grandfather on my mother’s side owned and operated a farm near Jerome. I grew up around a farming community and learned early on what it was to work hard, see a task to completion and do what you say. You know - The Old School. I did everything from picking potatoes at six to stacking hay and moving sprinkler pipe at sixteen.

I attended The College of Idaho .  There majored in football and accounting (in that order) I finally got serious about accounting after a career ending injury to my throwing shoulder. To pay for tuition I worked at many odd jobs including driving school bus and coaching baseball.

I spent my summers as an elite Smokejumper working for the U.S. Forest Service in McCall Idaho. Our crew of about forty young men were the initial attack on all inaccessible forest fires This was done by parachuting out of DC-3 or Twin Otter aircraft. My CPA career began in Sacramento. After a several years of experience in the profession I started my own firm. I was awarded an MBA at Golden Gate University. I built the business up, and sold it in the late nineties.

After considering my options, I decided a career as a financial advisor would best leverage the skills acquired as a CPA. My experience was at the major warehouses of both Prudential Securities and Wachovia Securities. During these years a desire was formed in me to work at a truly independent place of business. Therefore, in 2005 I moved to LPL Financial, who would support me in offering truly independent products and services that would best meet the needs of my clients.

I must comment on my family. They are my joy. Mary Leigh, my wife of many years is simply wonderful. We are the proud parents of our adult children, David, Michael, and Deborah. Michael, married to Cristen in May 2018 and in June 2019 became proud parents of Lillah Joy, my first granddaughter

I live in Roseville, California. My outside interests include keeping fit, tennis, golf and backpacking. I love to read history. Outside of work and family, I am involved in Special Tee’s golf program for special kids, West Placer Athletics, church and many social events.
